WIAA Football Playoffs, Round 1
Games will be played Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
- Division 4: Brodhead-Juda (7-2) at No. 3 New Glarus-Monticello (7-2).
- Division 5: No. 3 Darlington (8-1) at Palmyra-Eagle (5-4).
MONROE - Two of the three local teams in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association's football playoffs will be facing each other Tuesday.
Darlington, Brodhead-Juda and New Glarus-Monticello were among the teams included in the pairings announced Friday.
In Division 4, No. 3 seed New Glarus-Monticello (7-2, 4-1 Capitol South) will host Brodhead-Juda (7-2, 5-2 Rock Valley South). The game pits two Green County teams with tons of offense. The 2-seed in the bracket is Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (7-2, 4-1), which faces Montello-Princeton-Green Lake (6-3, 5-2). If MPGL wins, the winner of the Brodhead-Juda/New Glarus-Monticello would host Saturday's second-round game. If GET wins, the winner of the Cardinals/Knights game would be on the road.
Darlington (8-1, 6-1 SWAL) earned a No. 3 seed in its Division 5 bracket because of a combination of its record and co-conference championship with Cuba City and Iowa-Grant. The Redbirds will play Palmyra-Eagle (5-4, 4-3 Rock Valley South) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. The Redbirds travel in the first round despite being the high seed. Darlington's Martens Field does not have lights, and the WIAA requires all first-round games to be played at night.
Should Darlington win Tuesday, it would face the winner of 2-seed Pardeeville (8-1, 7-1) and Poynette (7-2, 4-1). If Pardeeville wins, Darlington likely will be on the road for the second round, Saturday, Oct. 31. If Poynette wins, Darlington likely would host the game during the afternoon.
