DARLINGTON - The Darlington Redbirds found themselves trailing after two weight classes and couldn't catch up as the Boscobel Bulldogs topped the Redbirds 41-25 in SWAL Conference wrestling Thursday.
Darlington spotted the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead after the 138 pound and 145 pound classes before senior Scott McDaniel scored a major decision (14-3) over Logan Jones at 152 pounds and junior Alex Schulte (160) won an 8-3 decision over Barry Buehre to bring the Redbirds to within 10-7.
After Hayden Black received a forfeit at 285, the Redbirds were still within three points at 22-19 with five weight classes to go, but at the lower weights the Redbirds struggled. Boscobel won the next four weights with a major decision (106), a forfeit (113), a pin (120), and a decision (126) to take a 41-19 lead. Senior Bo Brunkow received a forfeit at 132 pounds to make the final 41-25.
Darlington will compete in the Black Hawk Invitational Saturday.
