WILLIAMS BAY - The Black Hawk boys basketball team's fourth-quarter comeback came up short with a 57-53 loss to Williams Bay in a WIAA Division 5 regional championship game Saturday.
Black Hawk (14-11) jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the first quarter and the two teams were tied at the half 22-22. The Bulldogs broke the game open, outscoring the Warriors 19-11 in the third quarter.
Black Hawk senior Heath Butler scored a game-high 26 points and made four 3-pointers. Senior teammate Shawn Woodruff added 16 points.
Williams Bay's John Higgins scored 11 of his team-high 19 points in the second half. Teammate Brayden Pape chipped in 10 points.
The Warriors made 10 of 12 free throws compared to 8 of 14 for Williams Bay. However, the Bulldogs did make 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to hang on for the victory.
