Bruce advances to state

EVANSVILLE - Monroe junior Kyle Bruce fired an 81 to become an individual state qualifier in the boys Division 2 golf sectional at the Evansville Golf Club Tuesday.

Madison Edgewood (330) and Edgerton (338) had the top two scores at the sectional and advance as a team to the state meet. The Monroe Cheesemakers shot a 354 and finished fifth overall.

Bruce was one of four golfers who shot an 81, which was good for fifth place and put him among the top three golfers not from a state qualifying team and advanced to the state meet as an individual.

Senior Ice Yassaporn missed qualifying by just one stroke. He shot an 83 and finished ninth after bogeying the 17th and 18th holes.

Senior Dylon Wilde shot a 94, good for 52nd and senior Jessy Stagliano fired a 96 and placed 60th. Freshman Eric Timm finished 60th after shooting a 99.

The boys state golf meet will begin Monday at University Ridge in Madison. Tee-off for Division 2 teams and individual qualifiers is at noon.

Division 3

New Glarus Sectional

NEW GLARUS - Darlington finished 10th at the WIAA Division 3 New Glarus sectional Tuesday at the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club.

Cuba City edged Lancaster 347-349 for the sectional title. Both the Cubans and Flying Arrows advanced to state as a team. The Redbirds shot a 381 as a team and were nine strokes away from ninth-place Shoreland Lutheran.

Darlington sophomore Alex Schulte carded a 91 to lead the Redbirds. Junior Zach McArthur finished with a 95 and freshman A.J. Brandt shot a 96. Darlington senior Bryan Reichling rounded out the top four with a 99.

New Glarus junior Lucas Lagon finished with a 100.
