Brodhead softball stages comeback

MCFARLAND - The Brodhead softball team slugged their way to a 12-9 victory over McFarland in Rock Valley South action on Tuesday night.

McFarland got out to an early 3-0 lead after an inning of play, but the Cardinal offense responded with a six-run outburst in the second. The Cards picked up two more runs in the fourth inning, and tacked on four insurance runs in the top of the seventh. McFarland scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but their rally fell short.

Amanda Pickel threw a complete game for Brodhead. Pickel had five strikeouts, but also gave up 12 hits and 9 earned runs.

Offensively, the Cardinals racked up 13 hits, five of which went for extra bases. Brooke Boegli was 2-for-4 at the plate, hitting a home run and a double. Pickel was 3-for-5 with 2 doubles. Taylor Douglas also collected 2 hits, while Payton Wright's lone hit was a double.
