BRODHEAD - The Brodhead girls basketball team continued to roll, as the Cardinals picked up a 72-21 win over Big Foot Tuesday night.

Brodhead was in complete control from the start. The Cardinals led 26-5 after a quarter of play, and took a 44-8 lead into the locker room at halftime. Brodhead coach Brad Pickett said that getting out to a fast start was one of his team's goals coming into the game.

"One of our goals was getting out to a fast start and then playing a full 32 minutes," Pickett said. "We did a pretty good job defensively. We got a hand in the passing lanes and got some turnovers. We boxed-out and did a good job of limiting them to one opportunity."

Four Cardinals scored in double figures. Brianna Hicks and Carly Mohns each scored 13 to lead Brodhead, while Meg Duffield and Kylie Moe each chipped in 10. Pickett didn't think that anyone really stood out, it was just a solid team effort.

"The thing that stood out was our team defense. I think we gave up 7 field goals and 21 points. I think in 32 minutes that's a good effort," he said. "We had four girls in double figures, so it's hard to say that anyone really stood out."

Brodhead (10-0) hosts Jefferson on Friday in a non-conference game.

New Glarus 49, Waterloo 20

WATERLOO - A dominating second quarter propelled the New Glarus girls basketball team to a convincing win over conference rival Waterloo. The Glarner Knights knocked off the Pirates, 49-20.

After taking a 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Knights blew the game open, outscoring Waterloo 15-2 in the second. New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said she was particularly pleased with her team's defensive effort.

"We played really nice defense," she said. "We scored a lot off of turnovers. I liked to see that."

Courtney Feller was New Glarus' leading scorer with 15 points. Liz Proctor also had a solid outing for the Glarner Knights, contributing 10 points off the bench.

"Courtney found her shot again. Proctor had a good game off the bench," said Scheele.

A crucial conference game now looms for New Glarus. The Glarner Knights (6-4, 2-0) travel to Marshall on Thursday, with the winner taking sole possession of first place in the Capitol South Conference.
