WALWORTH - Locked in a tie game, Brodhead senior Brekan Day broke down the defense and slipped a pass to Justice Tway who made an acrobatic shot while being fouled with one second to go to give the Cardinals a thrilling 60-58 win over Big Foot Thursday.
"I would like to take credit for it," Brodhead coach Nick Jarvis said. "It was two great athletes making a play."
Day scored a team-high 18 points and Tway added 17 points. Senior Parker Johnson chipped in 11. With the win, Brodhead improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Rock Valley.
"It's really a tough place to play," Jarvis said. "To get out of there with a win is great."
Darlington 53, Shullsburg 30
DARLINGTON - Freshman Carter Lancaster had a team-high 15 points to help the Redbirds pull away in the second half in a victory over the Miners Thursday.
With the win, Darlington improves to 2-0. Darlington junior Tucker Lange added 10 points and senior Tony Ruesga chipped in 8.
"I think the key was our defensive effort," Darlington coach Tom Uppena said. "Our defense really controlled the game. We used a fullcourt man defense and I think we wore them down a little bit because we had more depth than they did."
Durand, Ill. 69,
Juda 65
JUDA - Senior Keagen Haffele scored a game-high 32 points, but Durand (Ill.) edged the Panthers.

"He (Broge) scored after an offensive rebound and we couldn't overcome a slow start," Juda coach Kurtis Mansfield said.
Broge scored a team-high 21 points and Stephen Conroy added 15.
Juda's Cole Fortney scored 13 points. Senior Luke Skoumal added 12 points and Quintin Kammerer chipped in 10 points. With the loss, Juda drops to 1-1.
