BOYS ROUNDUP: Extra session excruciating again for Juda

BARNEVELD - Head coach Andy Werner doesn't believe his Panthers are 0-3 in as many games, all of which have gone to overtime.

The Juda skipper felt his club played well enough to earn a victory despite coming up just short in a 48-47 loss at Barneveld. All three games have been on the road and Juda (9-10, 4-8 Six Rivers East) was seeking a sweep of the Eagles (12-6, 8-4).

"The guys played well enough to win and we didn't get a couple of calls down the stretch," Werner said. "We may have lost in the literal sense, but we're handling this one like a win."

Kurtis Mansfield forced the extra session with what's become a signature running pullup 3-pointer from the top of the key.

Trent Sullivan led the Eagles with 13 points and Juda junior Beau Benner led all scorers with 20 points, 12 coming from beyond the arc.

Monticello 42,

Argyle 26

For 16 minutes, the Orioles stuck with the half-court happy Ponies.

Argyle (5-14, 2-10 Six Rivers East) led Monticello (14-5, 10-2), 16-15 at halftime, but the Ponies coach sprung the trap in the second half.

"Their 1-3-1 trapping zone killed us in the third quarter," Argyle coach Travis Erickson said.

The resulting commotion led to Monticello's offense catching its groove in a 27-10 second-half surge.

Monticello's Jacob Edge and Argyle's Chris Shambrook both scored a game-high 10 points.

Waterloo 52,

New Glarus 46

The Glarner Knights got shot up by a Gatlin gun at home Tuesday night.

Waterloo (14-4, 8-2) senior Gatlin Bibow scored 17 points and New Glarus (9-9-, 5-5) only scored two points over the first seven minutes of the final quarter as the Pirates stole a crucial road victory.

New Glarus battled back late after a 35-35 tie entering the fourth slowly became a 44-37 Waterloo advantage with just 58 seconds left.

Junior guard Jake Bast led New Glarus with 15 points but fouled out. The Pirates shot 12-for-15 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Mineral Point 58, Darlington 47

As per usual, Kaleb Engelke was ready, willing and able to leapfrog the Redbirds.

The Mineral Point (11-8, 8-5) senior hit all the necessary clutch hoops on his way to a game-high 19 points in a victory at home over the Redbirds (12-6, 7-5 SWAL).

"There were times tonight that we needed a big shot and that's when we go to him," Pointers coach Dan Burreson said.

Senior Mitchell Erickson led Darlington with 16 points.
