BOYS HOOPS: Pecatonica tops Weston; Monticello beats Belmont

Pecatonica 53, Weston 42

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica Vikings came up big in the fourth quarter and senior Devin Jeglum performed well the whole night for the Vikings in a non-conference win over the Weston Silver Eagles. Leading 35-33 heading into the fourth quarter, the Vikings outscored the Silver Eagles 18-9 to pull away with the win behind 26 points from Jeglum. Senior Jeremy Meudt scored 10 points for Pecatonica (1-1 Six Rivers East, 4-6 overall). The Vikings' next game is Thursday at Black Hawk.

Cambridge 44, Albany 37

ALBANY - Senior Bryce Hulbert and junior Boomer Detra each scored 12 points, but the Comets couldn't overcome a seven-point first quarter deficit in a non-conference loss to the Cambridge Blue Jays, Tuesday. Albany (1-2 Six Rivers East) falls to 3-7 with the loss and will face Monticello at home Thursday in Six Rivers Conference action.

Warren 58, Argyle 49

ARGYLE - The Orioles took an early seven point lead, but couldn't hold on in losing to the Warren Warriors in non-conference action Tuesday night. Instead of playing four eight-minute quarters, the two teams implemented a WIAA experiment resembling college basketball by playing two 16-minute halves. The Warriors led 26-24 at halftime, then outscored the Orioles 32-25 in the second half. Junior Nate Thomas led Argyle with 15 points and junior Cody Young added 10 points for the Orioles (0-3 Six Rivers East, 0-7 overall). Argyle will host Juda in Six Rivers East Conference action Thursday.

Cassville 52, Black Hawk 29

CASSVILLE - The Warriors connected on five 3-point baskets, but was unable to generate much else on offense in a loss on the road to the Comets, Tuesday. Senior T.J. Adams led the Warriors with seven points and sophomore Hayden Schliem drained two 3-pointers in scoring six points for the Warriors (1-2 Six Rivers East, 3-4 overall). Black Hawk will host Pecatonica Thursday in Six Rivers East Conference action.

Big Foot 67, Brodhead 44

WALWORTH - The Cardinals trailed by just four points at halftime, but were outscored 37-18 in the second half in a loss to Big Foot in Rock Valley South conference action. Junior J.J. Panoske finished with 19 points for the Cardinals (2-2 Rock Valley South, 5-3 overall) who also got 10 points from junior Michael Peterson. Brodhead travels to Beloit Turner Friday night.

Monticello 53, Belmont 37

BELMONT - The Ponies scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed in downing the Braves, 53-37 in non-conference action Tuesday night. Senior Jacob Marty scored 15 points and junior Tyler Ritshcard chipped in with 14 points to lead Monticello (3-0 Six Rivers East, 6-3 overall). The Ponies get back into Six Rivers East Conference action Thursday at Albany.
