BOYS BASKETBALL: New Glarus, Argyle win big games

NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus boys basketball team bounced back from a loss to Lakeside Lutheran, nailing eight 3-pointers to cruise to a 66-53 win over Wisconsin Heights on Tuesday.

New Glarus, (9-1, 2-0 Capitol South Conference), ranked eighth in the Division 3 Associated Press state poll, outscored the Vanguards 18-9 in the first quarter. The Glarner Knights' lead ballooned to 37-22 at halftime.

The Knights had four players in double figures, led by senior Jake Bast with 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Cassidy Flannery and Ryan Bright added 12 points each and senior Jeremy Langfoss chipped in 10.

ARGYLE 50, ALBANY 46

ARGYLE - The Orioles survived a Six Rivers East Conference showdown against Albany.

Argyle (3-5, 2-3 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 14-4 lead against the Comets.

Albany (3-6, 1-3) came back and cut the Orioles' halftime lead to 25-21. The Comets lost despite hitting five 3-pointers.

Argyle had a balanced offensive attack with three players in double figures, including senior Kevin Berg (14 points), sophomore Nate Thomas (13 points) and senior Andy Bohlman (10 points).

BARNEVELD 60, BLACK HAWK 49

BARNEVELD - The Black Hawk boys basketball team's big week got off to a tough start with a loss to Barneveld.

Black Hawk (5-4, 2-2) trailed the conference-leading Golden Eagles by just three points after the first quarter. The Golden Eagles (8-2, 4-1) led 28-20 at halftime and made 14 of 21 free throws in the game.

Black Hawk junior TJ Adams led the Warriors with 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Black Hawk senior Michael Place added 13 points.

DARLINGTON 59, RIVERDALE 28

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds' defense sparked the rout of Riverdale.

Darlington (5-5, 2-3 SWAL) has extended its winning streak to four games. In dominating fashion, the Redbirds jumped out to a 31-15 halftime lead. Darlington extended its lead to 28 points with a 16-4 third-quarter run.

Sophomore Alex Erickson scored a game-high 19 points and senior Ethan Pickett added 16 points.
