COLUMBUS - Brodhead junior Brooke Boegli pitched a perfect game on Sunday July 7, at the 18U ASSSA championship tournament in Columbus.
In just 59 pitches, Boegli and her team, the Explosion Fastpitch win the title by never allowing a base runner.
Explosion Fastpitch is a traveling team with girls from Brodhead, Fort Atkinson, Columbus, Verona and other areas in south central Wisconsin.
The team's coach is Jeff Gartland, of Fort Atkinson.
Monroe shuts down Belleville
The Monroe Optimists scored five runs in the second and fifth innings on its way to a 13-0 win over Belleville in the Monroe Summer Fastpitch league.
Hannah Vetterli and Kaya Teasdale started the second inning with consecutive doubles. McKenzie Montgomery delivered a two-out, two-run single to cap Monroe's five-run inning. Natalie Dillon, Brooke Adams, Kayla Updike and Teasdale had multiple hit games for Monroe.
Dillon tossed a five-inning no-hitter to pick up the win for Monroe. Dillon struck out 11 and walked two.
In other games, Brodhead defeated Evansville 10-5, Orangeville beat Argyle 11-3, Lena edged Orfordville 11-10, Monticello slipped by Pecatonica 4-3 and Juda beat Warren 9-5.
Orangeville (5-0) leads the league by one game over Monticello (4-1) and over Monroe (3-1-1).
The Monroe Optimists play Warren at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, July 14. Monticello will play Belleville at 4:15 p.m., Juda will play Evansville at 6 p.m., and Brodhead will play Pecatonica at 7:45 p.m. The other night cap game includes Argyle against Lena at 7:45 p.m.
