Blues win in overtime

MONROE - The Monroe Blues got a thrilling 5-4 home win over the Fox Cities Ice Dogs Friday night.

Fox Cities scored the first two goals. Monroe's Travis Rayala scored a goal with one second left on an assist from Cody Larson to finish out the first period.

Both teams scored two goals in the second period. The Monroe goals were scored by Larson and Gottlieb Brandli III with assists going to Travis Davenport, Larson and Rayala.

With 1 minute, 50 seconds to go and trailing 4-3, the Avalanche pulled the goalie for an extra skater. Brandli posted up off the far post and the puck made it through the goalie grease to Brandli, who scored the game-tying goal with 10 seconds left.

Larson scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

Christian Blick had 58 saves in the game.

The Blues (2-3) play their next home game at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 against the Portage Lake Pioneers.
