MONROE - The Monroe Blues semi-pro hockey team entered last weekend three points out of a playoff spot but gained some ground by splitting games.

On Friday, the Blues played the Great Lakes Hockey League-leading West Bend Bombers. Untimely mistakes ended up costing the Blues in an 11-4 loss.

One of the few notable stats in the game was the two goals scored by Travis Rayala. L.P. Govain and Tom Glomski each scored a goal. Assists went to Travis Davenport (two), Eric Lindberg, Phil Hoss and Glomski.

Goalie Jeff Barthelemew had 34 saves.

Saturday night was a different story for the Blues, who skated to an 8-4 win over DePere.

The Blues went into DePere with a short bench. The Blues scored the only goal of the first period and then turned it up the intensity another notch by scoring five goals in the second period while keeping DePere off the scoreboard. DePere did manage to score four goals in the third period, but Monroe was also able to put two more in the net.

Monroe's Tom Rane, Drew Komplin and Glomski each had two goals. Christian Blick and Hoss each had one goal. Assists went to Blick and Rayala with three each for playmakers. Scott Perkins, Hoss and Komplin each had one assist.

Barthelemew had 37 saves for the win.

The last home game for the Monroe Blues is at 8 p.m. Saturday against Mosinee.
