MONROE - The Monroe Blues are gearing up for their third season in the Great Lakes Hockey League.
The GLHL is one the only elite amateur full-contact men's ice hockey league in the country. The league is made of players who have college, junior and semi pro experience.
The Blues are one of the youngest teams in a veteran heavy league.
"We've added a lot of speed to our lineup and guys that can really play," goalie Christian Blick said. "A few teams have already taken notice, and once the rookies learn how to play in this league we're going to win a lot more games this season."
The Blues' next three home games are at 7 p.m. Saturday against the Fond du Lac Bears, 7 p.m. Dec. 3 against Green Bay and Dec. 9 against Eagle River. The home games are played at Slice Arena.
The Blues are a nonprofit organization. According to a news release, the proceeds go to the Monroe High School boys hockey co-op team and Monroe Youth Hockey.
