Blues drop season opener to Calumet

CALUMET, Mich. - The Monroe Blues semi-pro hockey team lost its season opener 11-3 Saturday.

Calumet scored the first five goals.

Monroe got on the board with a power-play goal by Paul Morris on an assist by Eric Lindberg to cut Calumet's lead to 5-1. The Blues scored another power-play goal by Drew Komplin on assists by L.P. Govain and Carl Vanko to slice the deficit to 5-2. Calumet scored three more goals to finish the second period with an 8-2 lead.

Calumet scored three goals in the third period, while Phil Hoss scored for Monroe on assists from Morris and Govain.

The Blues will host their first home game of the season at 8 p.m. Friday against the Eagle River Falcons at SLICE.
