MONROE - If Monroe senior Traiten Gorr's win in a dual match against Evansville-Albany is a preview of what will come in the Evansville Division 2 regional in two weeks, he will have family bragging rights.

Gorr defeated his first cousin, Clay Spooner, 13-1 in a highly anticipated showdown at 220 pounds Tuesday, but the Cheesemakers forfeited four matches and Evansville-Albany rolled to a 43-22 win on Senior Night.

"I didn't want to pin him," said Gorr, who improved to 31-1 and is ranked No. 5 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online Division 2 poll. "The coaches wanted me to pin him. He's family to me. I shook hands with him afterwards and told him the coaches will be mad at me."

Monroe (8-5, 3-2 Badger South) got pins from sophomore Dempzy Foley (160) and junior Cole Murray (132). Foley pinned Evansville-Albany junior Miles Liesse in 5:37 and Murray pinned Brady Markee in 2:18.

The anticipated clash between Monroe and Evansville-Albany was muted since the Cheesemakers were short-handed. They gave up 24 points on forfeits, and two wrestlers didn't compete due to team reasons, Monroe coach Tom Witt said.

Evansville-Albany improves to 17-6, 6-0 Rock Valley Conference. The Blue Devils have won the regional team championship two straight years and two years ago clinched a state team berth.

"This is not the end all," Witt said of the dual match for the Cheesemakers. "We want to win the regional. We want to be focused on doing well at the regional. They (Evansville-Albany) are the favorite. We want to be in the mix for the championship."

At heavyweight, in one of the best bouts of the dual match, Monroe junior Kyle Walter edged Evansville-Albany freshman Brandon Lange 6-4 in double overtime. Walter trailed Lange 3-2 to start the third period. He scored on an escape with 1 minute, 50 seconds left to tie the match. After a scoreless first extra session, he got the takedown he needed in double overtime for a thrilling win. It's the second time Walter has defeated Lange this season.

Monroe freshman Gabe Witt (106) pulled out a 4-3 win over Evansville-Albany's Jared Miller. He scored on a reversal at the end of the second period and hung on for the win.

Evansville-Albany's Dakota Ringhand (182) slipped by Monroe junior Isaac Allen 2-0.

At 195, Evansville-Albany junior Lucius Rinehart, ranked fourth, beat eighth-ranked Monroe junior Hayden Arneson 5-0. Rinehart rode the momentum of a second-period escape and takedown to the victory.

"Isaac probably should have had a couple of points in the first period," Witt said. "He had a couple of deep shots."

Evansville-Albany sophomore Nolan Kicmol, ranked No. 1 at 138, and junior Chase Katzenmeyer, ranked No. 2 at 126, both received forfeits.

Evansville-Albany co-head coach Rob Kostroun isn't putting much stock in the results of the dual meet against the Cheesemakers being a sign of what may happen in two weeks when the Blue Devils host the regional.

"It's a different scoring system," Kostroun said. "They had some wrestlers missing. It's (tournament) is a different dynamic. They (Monroe) are well coached. We have a lot of respect for their program."

Gorr put the dual match loss in perspective with bigger goals ahead for the Cheesemakers at conference and in the regional.

"This really won't matter," he said. "We both looked flat. I think we are a completely different team in a tournament because everyone is going for first. It's a completely different environment."
