Here is the Monroe Blaze football report for Week 3. All games were played Saturday, Sept. 25.

Fourth-grade

The fourth-grade Blaze football team improved its record to 3-0 after an impressive outing against St. Francis Orange at Cross Plains, winning 28-0.

Nick Schumacher scored two rushing touchdowns for the Blaze while Colby Argall and Jordan Montgomery each had a rushing touchdown.

The defense had a stellar performance for the entire game recording their second shutout in a row.

The Blaze will host Wisconsin Heights at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Fifth-grade

The Monroe fifth-grade Blaze football team won their third straight game this week, 18-7 over Pecatonica-Argyle.

The Blazesfirst two touchdowns were very similar looking when the offensive line opened up huge holes for fullback Sam Kind to run through and score from over 30 yards out each time.

The third touchdown was a pass from David Keegan to Jake Meier.

The defense, lead by Dillon Scace, Dempzy Foley, and Travis Wolf, did an outstanding job of keeping the Pec-Argyle offense in check. Few first downs were allowed and Pec-Argyle's longest play was stopped short of the goal line when Scace made a diving tackle to trip up the runner.

The fifth-graders play at home Saturday at 10 a.m.

Sixth-grade

The Blaze sixth-grade traveled to Cross Plains and came away with a 28-0 win over St. Francis. The defense led the way holding St Francis to only 30 yards.

The Blaze had scores from Carter Sawdey on a 10-yard run, Ryan Miller on a 22-yard run. Alex Tordoff added a PAT. Brandon Klein hammered the ball to score from 1-yard out with Tordoff adding the PAT again. The final score came from Tordoff as he scampered 45 yards on a quarterback keeper.

The Blaze return to action at 10 a.m. Saturday at home to face the Belleville Bobcats.

Seventh Grade

The Monroe Blaze seventh-grade hosted Wisconsin Heights at the YMCA and pitched a shutout, winning 31-0.

Monroe was able to start strong, scoring early and often. After Kaya Teasdale returned the opening kick-off to the Heights 49 yard line it only took two plays for the Blaze to score. Brent Edmunds ran over a couple Heights defenders for a 7-yard touchdown after McKenzy Foley ran 42 yards on Monroe's first offensive play of the game. Foley kicked the PAT for an 8-0 lead.

Jacob Ellefson stopped Heights' first possession with an interception and Jaron Kuester connected with Garret Gogin for a 71-yard touchdown reception. Foley again kicked the PAT for a 16-0 Blaze lead.

After Riley Mellenberger recovered a fumble ending Wisconsin Heights next possession, Edmunds ran 25-yards for his second touchdown of the game. Monroe led 24-0 after Foley kicked his third successful PAT before the end of the first quarter. The Blaze had a touchdown called back due to a holding penalty just before the first half ended.

On Heights first possession of the second half, Ben Latimer was able to cause a fumble that was recovered by Monroe's Josh Richter on Height's 37-yard line. After eight plays, Jared Amacher was able to capitalize on the field position and score on an 8-yard run. Tanner Thompson kicked the PAT for the final 31-0 score.

The Blaze's defense continued to play well as Edmunds intercepted a Heights pass and Amacher recovered a fumble.

The Blaze ended the game with 233 yards of offense over 30 plays while Wisconsin Heights only netted 3 yards on 30 plays.

With the win, the seventh Grade Blaze record now stands at 3-1 (2-1 in league play). The Blaze will have their first road game of the year Saturday at 9 a.m. at New Glarus/Monticello.

Eighth-grade

The eight-grade Blaze ran their record to 3-0 by defeating Madison West Gold 28-0 with another strong defensive performance.
