JOHNSON CREEK - Freshman Hannah Butler hit a sacrifice fly to score junior Hannah Herbst to propel Black Hawk to a thrilling 7-6 win over top-seeded Johnson Creek in a WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinal game on Tuesday.

Black Hawk (14-11) upset Johnson Creek, ranked seventh in the Division 5 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association state poll.

The win marks the third straight game in the tournament that Black Hawk has won a game by one run. The Warriors have now upset the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the tournament.

With the win, Black Hawk advances to play Belmont in a WIAA Division 5 sectional championship game Thursday in Belmont.

"I just keep telling them, 'Do you believe,'" Black Hawk coach Jim Baumgartner said. "I told them going into the top of the seventh inning you still have a chance. We've done it (come back) the last five games."

Now, the Warriors are on the brink of the state tournament. With a win against Belmont Thursday, Black Hawk would advance to the state tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison.

Johnson Creek's Bre Caminata blasted a two-run home run in a four-run sixth to take a 6-5 lead over the Warriors.

The Warriors answered in the seventh. Black Hawk senior Lauren Schultz doubled. Herbst reached on an error. Senior Sam Lovelace came through with a game-tying RBI single to tie the game at 6. That set the stage for Butler's sacrifice fly that drove in the game-winning run.

"It's great," Baumgartner said. "The seniors don't want this to end."

Black Hawk senior Jordyn Delzer helped the Warriors get off to a quick start by crushing a grand slam in the first.

Black Hawk freshman Natalie Leuzinger went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Butler had a double, scored two runs and had one RBI.

Butler earned the win throwing a complete game. She gave up three earned runs on seven hits. Butler struck out five and walked eight.

"I just keep telling them one game at a time," Baumgartner said.
