Black Hawk tops Orioles, Ponies win

ARGYLE - The Argyle boys basketball team couldn't hang on to a 13-point halftime lead and Black Hawk came back to beat the Orioles 41-37 Friday night.

Black Hawk (9-5, 4-2 Six Rivers East) erased a 13-point second half deficit by limiting the Orioles to just eight points. The Warriors overcame a large deficit by using a 20-5 fourth quarter run to cap their comeback.

Black Hawk senior Michael Place led the Orioles with a game-high 18 points and Payton Schliem added nine.

Argyle (4-9, 3-5) came out firing scoring the game's first seven points. Argyle sophomore Nate Thomas scored down low and was fouled at the start of the first quarter. He converted the conventional three-point play at the foul line, which was the start of the Orioles 12-2 run.

Argyle senior Andy Bohlman drilled a 3-pointer from the wing with about two minutes to go in the first quarter to give the Orioles a 10-point lead.

Argyle senior Kevin Berg, who scored 12 points, scored down low at the start of the second quarter to push the Orioles lead to 16-3. Thomas scored 10 points and Bohlman added seven.

Monticello 58, Juda 46

JUDA - The Panthers were playing with conference leading Monticello for the first half.

The Ponies led the Panthers 14-13 in the first quarter before a second quarter surge. Monticello junior Jacob Marty, who scored a game-high 26 points, drilled four 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Ponies extended their halftime lead to 32-23.

Monticello (9-5, 6-1) outscored the Panthers 14-7 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 16 points.

Juda coach Andy Werner said turnovers and giving up offensive rebounds was the difference in the second half.

Werner said the Panthers gave up eight free throws off of offensive rebounds.

"We couldn't box them out," he said. "We got behind and it was run and chase time. It's not the spot you want to be in."

Monticello junior Tyler Meier scored 15 points and senior Brandon Holz had 13.

Juda senior Beau Benner scored a team-high 11 points and senior Tyler Pierce added nine. With the loss Juda drops to 3-11, 1-6.

Barneveld 68, Pecatonica 52

BARNEVELD - The Pecatonica boys basketball team came out running and led Barneveld, ranked ninth in the Associated Press Division 4 state poll, 43-34 at halftime.

Barneveld outscored the Vikings 21-5 in the third quarter and limited them to just nine second half points. With the loss Pecatonica drops to 6-8, 3-5.

Pecatonica senior Kaleb Feller scored 17 points to lead the Vikings. Pecatonica junior Devin Jeglum added nine points and Kyle Kent and Milton Kurschner each scored eight.

Belmont 57, Albany 45

BELMONT - The Comets couldn't overcome a big second quarter run by Belmont and lost to the Braves 57-45.

The Braves used a 14-3 second quarter run to open up a 28-22 halftime lead.

Albany (4-8, 1-4) was led by junior Bryce Hulbert who scored a team-high 11 points. Senior Tyler Bauman scored 10 points and jake Lincicum added nine.

New Glarus 66, Cambridge 60

CAMBRIDGE - The Glarner Knights survived a tough test on the road, handing Cambridge its first conference loss 66-60.

New Glarus (10-2, 3-1 Capitol South) kept pace with Marshall in the race for a conference title.

New Glarus senior Jake Bast scored 20 points to lead the Knights and Cassidy Flannery had 19.

Southwestern 66, Darlington 52

SOUTHWESTERN - Darlington sophomore Alex Erickson scored 23 points, but it wasn't enough as the Redbirds lost to Southwestern 66-52.

Southwestern jumped out to a 15-9 first quarter lead and led by just five after the third quarter. Southwestern outscored the Redbirds 27-18 in the fourth quarter.

With the loss Darlington falls to 7-8, 4-5 SWAL.
