SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk girls basketball team bounced back from its first conference loss to Barneveld with a 48-31 win over Argyle Thursday night.
Black Hawk (18-2, 10-1 Six Rivers East) outscored the Orioles 14-5 in the first quarter and led 32-12 at halftime. The Warriors limited the Orioles to just two field goals in the first half.
"I thought we played pretty good defense," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "We rebounded really well. We had a lot of girls contribute."
Black Hawk senior Kate Quinn scored 11 points to lead the Warriors. Black Hawk sophomore Jen Wellnitz scored eight points and senior Katie Powers had seven.
Argyle senior Cortney Gilbertson scored 11 points to lead the Orioles. With the loss, Argyle drops to 6-15, 4-7.
New Glarus 60, Waterloo 15
WATERLOO - New Glarus coach Megan Scheele set the tone early on with the Glarner Knights using a press to power their way to the win.
"Last time we played down to their level more than we would have liked to," Scheele said. "We came out aggressive and pressed right away."
New Glarus (12-8, 7-3 Capitol South) outscored the Pirates 16-1 in the first quarter and led 32-4 at the break.
New Glarus senior Alycia Atwell scored a game-high 16 points and junior Alexis Hanson added 15.
Barneveld 51, Monticello 37
MONTICELLO - Barneveld's Madison Laube and Hailey Cannoy combined to score 29 points as the Eagles cruised past Monticello.
Laube scored a game-high 15 points and Cannoy had 14 as Barneveld (18-3, 10-1 Six Rivers East) kept pace with Black Hawk atop the conference.
Monticello senior Becky nelson scored a team-high 10 points to lead the Ponies. With the loss, Monticello drops to 10-11, 6-6.
Pecatonica 54, Albany 31
BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica junior Michelle Francois scored 14 points to help the Vikings roll to a conference win.
Pecatonica (4-17, 2-9 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead and led by 16 points at halftime. Pecatonica sophomore Alexandra Ihm scored eight points. Albany (5-16, 0-11) was led by junior Cassidy Bump who scored 16 points.
