Black Hawk gets revenge against Pec

SOUTH WAYNE - Senior Jordyn Delzer had a team-high 12 kills and the Black Hawk High School volleyball team got a little payback Thursday, avenging an early season loss with a four-set win over Pecatonica.

Black Hawk rolled to a 25-10, 25-15, 22-25, 25-11 win. Pecatonica defeated Black Hawk in five sets in the first conference match of the season on Aug. 30.

"They (Pecatonica) are a dangerous team," Black Hawk coach Rachel Wolff said. "They are just a power team. They beat us in the first conference match of the season. It's definitely someone we could not overlook."

Black Hawk junior Hannah Herbst put up 13 assists, and senior Sam Lovelace notched three aces. Senior Elizabeth Holland had a team-best four blocks for the Warriors.

Black Hawk improves to 4-3 Six Rivers East and remains in a third-place tie in the conference with Juda.

Pecatonica senior Liz Tisch had seven kills. Junior Grace Keast had a team-high 21 digs, and junior Taetum Pagel had nine assists.

MONTICELLO - Senior Chelsea Burkhalter was perfect at the serving line and had 10 assists to power the Panthers.

Juda (7-7, 4-3 Six Rivers East) battled back from a deficit to win the first set 25-22. The Panthers then closed match with 25-20 and 25-16 wins in the final two sets.

"I was hoping for a better contest," Monticello coach Scott Smice said. "Juda is a good team. They earned it. We have some bugs to work out. If you ask any coach the two words they don't want to hear are unforced errors, and we had a lot of them. Juda took advantage of that and earned their points."

Juda senior Sara Jordan had a team-high nine kills and 19 digs. Junior MacKenzie Byrne added 17 digs.

Monticello junior Courtney Kammes had a team-best 10 kills and five blocks. Senior Jessie Garrison dished out 25 assists, and senior Chandler Hansen had five aces.



Brodhead 3, Palmyra-Eagle 0

BRODHEAD - Brodhead sophomore Abbey Johnson had 10 kills and 16 assists to lead the Cardinals to a 25-12, 25-15, 25-17 win in a Rock Valley South match. Junior Chandra Clark posted nine kills and 10 assists. Johnson and Alexis Oliver each had three aces.
