MINERAL POINT - Big offensive outputs from Conner Meyer and C.J. Leuzinger and strong defensive efforts from Colby Argall and Michael Flanagan led the Black Hawk boys basketball team to a 56-50 victory over Platteville on Tuesday night at the Mineral Point tournament.
The Warriors will face Mineral Point at 7:30 p.m. today for the tournament championship. Mineral Point defeated River Ridge (Illinois) 86-78 Tuesday.
Meyer finished with 20 points, and Leuzinger had 19. Leuzinger hit three 3-pointers, and Meyer added two. Leuzinger also was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Josh Meier chipped in 13 points for the Warriors.
Black Hawk edged ahead of Platteville 28-27 by halftime. That's when the defense of two players in particular made an impact.
"I think our defense was really on lockdown in the second half," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "Colby Argall and Michael Flanagan did a great job on their best player, Brandon Nies. He only had two points in the second half and that's a very good job by those two guys.
"Our defense won the game tonight."
