ARGYLE - A balanced scoring attack propelled the Black Hawk boys basketball team to a 62-32 win over Argyle.

The Warriors led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, and saw their lead grow to 19 points at halftime. Black Hawk outscored the Orioles 15-8 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth.

"They're just good, I mean they're the conference champs," Argyle assistant coach Chuck Bredeson said of Black Hawk. "They're fast, they're deep. They have seven or eight guys that could start on any team. We didn't play great, but that doesn't mean they didn't."

Argyle was led in scoring by Riley Ostby, who scored 12 points. Argyle's next leading scorer was Kyle Emberson with 8 points. Black Hawk had four players score in double figures. Cory Rupnow scored 12 to lead the Warriors, while Heath Butler chipped in 11, and both Coltin Piefer and Cuyler Meier added 10.

Both teams regular seasons came to an end Friday night. Black Hawk (20-1, 11-1 in the Six Rivers East) hosts Oakfield on Tuesday in their playoff opener. Argyle (9-14, 3-9) travels to Fall River on Tuesday for their first round matchup. For the Orioles to advance in the postseason, it starts on defense.

"We gotta play 'D', that's been our thing all year," Bredeson said. "We gotta play hard and on defense hold them to around 40. When we do that we are in the game. We were not even in the game tonight. We're in the game when we play 'D', box-out, and stick to the fundamentals."

Barneveld 58, Pecatonica 36

BARNEVELD - A big first quarter by Barneveld was too much for the Pecatonica boys basketball team to overcome, as the Vikings fell to the Eagles, 58-36.

Barneveld jumped on Pec from the start, grabbing a 22-5 lead after a quarter of play. That lead expanded to 32-10 at halftime and 43-17 after three. The Vikings won the final period, 19-15.

The game brought Pecatonica's regular season to a close. The Vikings (7-15, 3-9 in the Six Rivers East) take on Central Wisconsin Christian on Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs.

Brodhead 63, Big Foot 55

BRODHEAD - It's been since Dec. 28, but the Brodhead boys basketball team finally found themselves in the winning column again Friday night, as the Cardinals knocked off Big Foot, the second place team in the Rock Valley South, 63-55.

Big Foot led 21-14 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cards trimmed the deficit to just three points at halftime. Brodhead got down by as much as 11 at one point in the third, before they stormed back to take a 47-43 lead into the final quarter. The Cardinals outscored the Chiefs 16-12 in the fourth to close out the 'W'.

"In the first half, I didn't think defensively we got it done. We were allowing too many second chance opportunities," said Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer. "In the second half, the guys were able to get it going. Danny Lewis had 3 threes in the third."

Lewis led the Cardinals with 22 points. Josiah DeLorme also had a big scoring night with 20 points. Freshman Ned Slocum also got into double figures with 11 points.

"Without a doubt, Lewis had his career night," Kammerer said. "He had five 3s. They were big within the flow of the game. He also got it done defensively and grabbed some key rebounds. Him and DeLorme, they did a heck of a job."

Brodhead (5-16, 2-13 in the Rock Valley South) wraps up their regular season today against Beloit Turner. Kammerer said it was nice for his team to be able to get another win before the postseason begins.

"I'm just happy for the kids. It's been a struggle mentally. Happy to finally see them pull one out," he said. "You can't credit this team enough. They could've easily given up throughout the year. They come to practice and work hard. They have gotten better. They still have a ways to go, but it makes coaching a little easier when they come and work hard."
