MILWAUKEE - New Glarus baseball coach Warren Howard said playing at Miller Park on Wednesday was "just a tremendous experience."
The Glarner Knights topped the big day off with a 12-6 victory against Pecatonica.
Junior Spencer Jones ripped a two-run double and senior Aaron Nimtz added a two-run single for New Glarus, which also received triples from senior Evan Hauge, sophomore Tyler Molencamp and junior Gary Noyce.
Molencamp started and went four innings to record the pitching victory.
"The kids were so excited," Howard said. "We got to hit in the batting cages underneath (the stands), used the bullpens and were in the dugouts. Just being on the field where the Brewers play and seeing how big that stadium is when you're out on the field is amazing."
Junior Jake Scoville and sophomore Tyler Hodgson each went 2-for-3 for Pecatonica. Coach Jim Strommen said senior catcher Tanner Kleppe kept the Vikings within striking distance by catching five pop fouls.
"There's a lot of room back there and he made some tough catches," Strommen said. "He had a great game for us defensively and saved us some runs."
Strommen said it was quite a day.
"I told them when we get to the dugout, just sit there and take it all in before you get excited and run out there," he said. "The kids created some lifetime memories."
