MILTON - For three innings, Monroe junior Lucas Neuenschwander kept Milton at bay.

Milton erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to come back to beat Monroe 10-3 on Monday.

"We gave up six earned runs and a lot of times that is enough to compete," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "We gave up four unearned runs and that is tough to come back from."

Monroe sophomore Jaron Kuester, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI, doubled leading off the first. Junior Chase Hellenbrand struck out, but reached after the Red Hawks catcher overthrew first base on a dropped third strike and Kuester scored from second.

The Cheesemakers (1-9, 0-5 Badger South) added to their lead in the second. Monroe junior Desmond Ford had a two-out single. Sophomore Brent Edmunds walked and Kuester delivered an RBI single to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead.

The Red Hawks' eight-run fourth started with a single and a hit batter. The Red Hawks came through with an RBI single and a wild pickoff throw at second base allowed the Red Hawks to move two runners into scoring position, and they followed with a two-run double.

"The second time through the lineup they hit the ball well off of Lucas," Huffman said. "You can't just give them free bases. We had a walk, a hit batter and a single and it just snowballs out of control, and you look up and they have eight runs."

Neuenschwander pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits. Monroe junior Carter Adkins pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief. He gave up two earned runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked two.

"Carter came in and battled," Huffman said. "He hasn't had a ton of experience."

Monroe junior Matt Coplien went 2-for-4 with a double and Edmunds went 1-for-2 with a double.
