FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe Cheesemakers had chances to score early against Fort Atkinson, but through six innings only had two runs to show for it and trailed 3-2. Down to their last three outs, Monroe saved its biggest inning for its last, scoring seven runs in the seventh frame to come away with a 9-3 win at Fort Atkinson in a Badger South game Thursday.

Six different players each scored a run for the Cheesemakers, led by senior Drew Nafzger, who went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Senior Dylan Cleaveland also had a big day at the plate by going 3 for 4 and driving in two runs.

"He stepped up at third (base). We needed that production," Monroe head coach Dustin Huffman said.

Senior Mitch Marty also drove in two runs for Monroe.

The seventh inning fireworks made a winner of senior Logan Wells, who gave up three runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out four.

"Logan kept us in the game. He hit his spots," said Huffman.

Wells kept the game close and Monroe came up with 16 hits, with much of that output in the last inning.

"The hitting was contagious in the seventh," said Huffman.

Monroe (5-5, 4-2 Badger South) will have another road game today as they travel to Beloit Turner for a non-conference contest.
