ORFORDVILLE - The second-ranked Black Hawk girls basketball team was outscored in two quarters by the Orfordville Parkview Vikings, but still won Tuesday night. The difference was the two quarters in which the Warriors had a decided advantage in a 56-44 non-conference victory.
Trailing 13-12 after the first quarter, Black Hawk used an 18-10 edge in the second quarter to take a 30-23 halftime lead. The Vikings closed the gap to 38-33 in the third quarter by outscoring Black Hawk 10-8, but the Warriors pulled away with an 18-11 fourth quarter to remain a perfect 8-0 overall.
Senior Rachel Rygh scored 23 points and senior Melissa Wellnitz scored 17 points to power the Warriors.
Black Hawk (4-0 Six Rivers East) hosts Monticello tomorrow.
Argyle 47, Abundant Life 39
MADISON - The Argyle Orioles got their first win of the season and snapped an overall 24-game losing streak with a 47-39 win on the road Tuesday at Madison Abundant Life Christian.
Junior Danielle Treuthardt led the way for the Orioles with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Sophomore Kayla Ostby came up with 12 points and was clutch at the free throw line, making all six of her free throws.
The Orioles went 13 of 18 at the foul line and 7 of 10 in the fourth quarter to turn back the Challengers. The Orioles' last win came on Jan. 4 , 2010, also against Abundant Life.
Argyle (1-9, 0-4 Six Rivers East) will host Albany Tuesday.
