BRODHEAD - Danny Lewis scored a team-high 15 points, but Beloit Turner cruised past the Brodhead boys basketball team 62-36 Saturday.

Brodhead (5-17, 2-14 Rock Valley) started strong, jumping out to a 10-9 lead in the first quarter. The Trojans outscored the Cardinals 20-6 in the second quarter to take a 13-point lead at the half. The Trojans switched to a 2-3 zone in the second quarter and the Cardinals struggled shooting.

"Even though they were putting more pressure on us, I felt like we were getting open looks," Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer said. "When you shoot high 20s or 30 percent, you won't win many games. To be honest, I was a little disappointed in our effort. You have to be able to shoot to win games."

Josiah DeLorme added six points for the Cardinals. Brodhead (5-17) will open up the WIAA Division 3 regional at Lakeside Lutheran on Tuesday.

Southwestern 86, Darlington 49

HAZEL GREEN - Southwestern's Josh Smith scored a game-high 22 points and the Wildcats rolled to a big win over the Cardinals.

Southwestern (19-3) made 11 three-pointers and Darlington hit 13. The Redbirds played a strong first half and trailed 35-28 at the half. The Wildcats outscored the Redbirds 31-12 in the third quarter to take control of the game. The Wildcats dominated the second half, outscoring the Redbirds 51-21.

"We turned the ball over several times against their switching zone," Darlington coach Mike Hopkins said. "They got some easy baskets. On defense we didn't stop them from getting the ball inside."

Darlington sophomore Cole McDonald scored a team-high 14 points and made four 3-pointers. Both Cade and Cody Hardyman each added 11 points. Hopkins said the Wildcats had 26 shots inside and the Redbirds had just five.

"We didn't shoot a free throw the whole game because we rely so much on the outside shot," Hopkins said. "The game is won and lost inside."

Darlington (6-16, 4-10 SWAL) will host Lancaster on Tuesday in the Division 4 regional quarterfinals.
