MONROE — Move it Forward concluded its Summer Event with a game between the varsity softball and baseball teams on Monday, June 26. Baseball overcame a 4-1 deficit to score 10 runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the comeback win.

After grounding out to Keatin Sweeney at shortstop for all three outs in the second inning, Softball struck first in the third. Brinley Roidt hit a two-out RBI single that scored Olivia Feller.

Baseball looked to counter in the bottom of the third, as Tucker Markham reached on an error. On Ethan Rosenstiel’s single, Markham ran all the way home. Katie Witt’s throw beat him to home, but Markham couldn’t stop. He ran catcher Kate Kundert over, but Kundert held on to the ball for the out. Rosenstiel attempted to score during all the chaos, too, but Kundert quickly got up and tagged him out. Keagann Paulson ended the inning with a strikeout.

A pair of singles from Braden Rupnow and Lucas Graham tied the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.

Softball regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Sophie Golembiewski and Olivia Feller tallied back-to-back hits. Roidt then drove them both in with a triple over the left fielder’s head. Taylor Jacobson kept the inning going with an RBI single up the middle.

Both teams went quietly in the sixth inning, before Baseball tied the game at four in the bottom of the seventh. After a flyout, Rosenstiel singled. Keegan Dahmen then lined a shot to center that ricocheted off the glove of a diving Chesney Slotten. Dahmen scampered around all the bases for and inside the park home run. Following a pair of errors, Owen Gilbertson tied the game up with a two-out RBI single.

Baseball broke the game open with a seven-run seventh, scoring the maximum number of runs allowed in an inning. Graham and Rosenstiel singled, and Dahmen drove in a run with a single. Two errors loaded the bases for Rupnow, who was hit by a pitch. Gilberston then lined a triple to right, scoring three runs. Marcus Ott drove in the seventh run of the inning with an RBI bunt single.

Markham faced just one extra batter in the top of the ninth, securing the 11-4 win.

Dahmen and Gilbertson went a combined 7-for-10 with seven RBIs to lead Baseball. Rosenstiel, Rupnow and Graham also had multiple hit games. For Softball, Roidt went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Golembiewski tallied four hits and Jacobson drove in the other run.

The game marked the end of Move it Forward’s Summer Event, which also included a volleyball tournament, concessions and a silent auction. Through these venues, the group raised $2,200 for the Monroe Aces and Queen of Diamonds.
