Barrett runs well at NCAA Championships

TERRE HAUTE - Matt Barrett, one of the most accomplished cross country runners in Monroe history, took part in the NCAA National Cross Country meet on Monday, Nov. 24.

Barrett, a junior at Minnesota, was the fourth Golden Gopher to cross the 10 kilometer finish line with a time of 31:23.6. He finished 128th overall.

Minnesota, ranked No. 12 in the nation prior to the race, finish 15th at the meet as a team. Wisconsin came in fourth place as a team. Oregon, led by individual champion senior Galen Rupp 29:04, won the team title.

While in high school, Barrett set numerous records at MHS, as well as throughout southern Wisconsin for his distance running as a cross country runner and as a track star.
