MONTICELLO - The late-game heroics by Monticello freshman Josh Kolasch weren't enough as Barneveld came back to beat the Ponies 5-4 in a nail-biter.

The Ponies held a 1-0 lead until three errors lead to three runs for Barneveld in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

Monticello rallied in the seventh storming back from a 4-1 deficit. Senior Tyler Ritschard led off the seventh with a base hit up the middle. Chris Voegeli then grounded to Barneveld's pitcher who threw the ball into center on a play at second base, which allowed Ritschard to take third. Ritschard then scored on an error.

Monticello junior Lucas Kolasch batted in Voegeli with a slow grounder to second base. Freshman catcher Josh Kolasch then stepped up to the plate and hit a towering two-out double to left field that knocked in McGowan to tie the game at 4.

"It was great to see us battle back in the seventh and scratching out a few runs before Josh Kolasch tied it up," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said. "When he (Josh Kolasch) hit it, I thought it was a home run, but the wind knocked it down enough to keep it in the park."

The Eagles bounced back to win the game in the bottom of the seventh. Barneveld's Carson Carmody led off the seventh with a single. The Ponies got a force out at the plate on Beau Thompson's grounder. Monticello collected the second out after the Eagles missed a suicide squeeze that led to a run down between third and home. Jeremy Kitelinger then came through with a walk-off RBI single to give the Eagles a 5-4 win.

"Give Barneveld credit getting on base and making things happen in the bottom of the seventh," Pinnow said. "Overall a great game between two really good teams."
