ALBANY - Barneveld's Carson Carmody pitched shutout baseball for six innings to lead the Eagles to a 5-2 victory against Albany in a Six Rivers East Conference game Tuesday.
Senior Cody Schultz pitched six innings for the Comets and allowed five runs, three earned, with five strikeouts and two walks.
Schultz got the Comets on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-out, two-run single, but was picked off first base to end the game.
"Cody pitched a heck of a game," said Albany coach Brandon Bakken. "The first two runs were unearned. Usually, we tend to fold when things like that happen, but the guys buckled down."
Barneveld, the Six Rivers East champion at 16-4, improved to 18-4. Albany fell to 8-14.
The Comets are the No. 2 seed in the Division 4 regional and received a first round bye. They will face the winner of Friday's regional quarterfinal between No. 3 seed Black Hawk and No. 6 seed Faith Christian May 29.
