Barneveld clips Albany

ALBANY - Despite outhitting the conference's top team eight to six, the Albany baseball team fell to Barneveld, 7-4.

Trailing 6-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning, the Comets threatened to make a comeback by cutting into the Golden Eagles' lead with three runs. After the inning, the Comets would not score again.

Mitchell Kauk and Joey McNaught each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Comets, the No. 2 seed heading into Tuesday's regional action.

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors were blanketed in their doubleheader against Belmont, as both games ended in one-hit shutouts by the opposing Braves.

In the first game, Belmont's Lane Kamps scorched the Warriors en route to a 7-0 victory. Kamps limited the Warriors to only one hit and one walk, while he struck out 16 batters.

Tayler Rupnow finished with a double for Black Hawk's only hit.

The second game was mostly the same story for Black Hawk, but this time Belmont's Van Bogaert had his shot at a near no-hitter. In six innings of work, Bogaert limited the Warriors to one hit, five walks, but struck out 12 batters.



Argyle 9, Monticello 2

ARGYLE - The Argyle baseball team cruised to a 9-2 win over the visiting Ponies in their first game in an unusual two-game matchup on Tuesday.

The Orioles collected 10 hits on the night, along with a solid performance by junior Colton Ploessl on the mound.

"We hit the ball hard tonight," Orioles coach Chuck Bredeson said. "We probably could have had more hits, (but) they (Monticello) played pretty deep tonight."

Alec Treuthardt finished 3-for-4 with a triple, while junior Kyle Olson was 2-for-4. Ploessl pitched six innings, allowing five hits, one walk, two runs (one earned) to go along with eight strikeouts.

Lucas Marty was 3-for-4 with a double to lead Monticello.

The Orioles second game of the night was a rescheduled make-up game against Pecatonica, who no-hit the Orioles in a 15-0 performance by Vikings pitcher Lucas McKeon.

Already up 5-0 after the second inning, Pecatonica collected an additional 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the game short. Two Orioles batters reached base by an error and a hit-by-pitch. In five innings of work, McKeon struck out eight batters.

At the plate, McKeon went 2-for-4, while A.J. Hendrickson and Chase Norton finished with a double and triple, respectively.



New Glarus 6, Palymyra-Eagle 4

NEW GLARUS - With the weather conditions only worsening, the New Glarus Knights escaped with a 6-4 victory in five innings over visiting Palymyra-Eagle.

Tied at one apiece entering the third inning, the Knights captured the lead thanks to a three-run outing in the bottom of the inning and responded to the Panthers two-run fourth inning with two scores of their own.

Putting together an all-around performance was Knights senior Kyle Larson, who in his final home game pitched all five innings, allowing four runs (two earned), six hits, four walks and six strikeouts. At the plate, Larson was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

"Tonight was some of the best baseball that we've played all year," Knights coach Ross Eddy said. "We played smart and we took advantage of some opportunities, and that was a nice thing to see."

New Glarus will play their final regular season game at Marshall on Thursday before entering postseason play.
