MONROE - Saturday was Appreciation Day at SLICE. With many grandparents, teachers and sponsors in the stands, the Avalanche Bantam A team tied the McFarland Spartans Bantam A 3-3.
Tessa Janecke opened the game scoring a goal on assists by Travis Edmunds and Hayden Roth. Roth, off assists from Roman Bauer and Tessa Janecke, lit the lamp at the top of the second period. The Spartans added a goal, followed by another Avalanche goal by Edmunds, assisted by Cade Janecke and Broc Kuberski. The Spartans added two goals near the end of the second period. Goaltender Heath Bear recorded 23 saves.
On Sunday, the Avalanche went to McFarland for a rematch and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. The Avalanche were first to get on the scoreboard with Anika Einbeck scoring off a pass from Hayden Roth in the first period. The Spartans responded with two goals in the second period. Tessa Janecke scored on an assist by Einbeck to tie the game. The Spartans pulled ahead with another goal. Luke Kuberski scored the game-tying goal on an assist by Cade Janecke with 3:20 left in the period. Bear recorded 37 saves.
PeeWee A
The Avalanche PeeWee A team traveled to Verona and lost 5-3 to the Wildcats PeeWee A team.
Thirty-five seconds into the game, Hayden Roth made an excellent pass to Tessa Janecke for the first goal. The Wildcats responded with a goal. From the blue line, Roman Bauer fired one into the back of the net with assists from Alvin Buholzer and Tessa Janecke. The Wildcats went on a scoring streak by adding four goals. Hayden Roth scored the final goal on an assist by Alvin Buholzer. Goaltender Jack Leverton recorded 32 saves.
