Bantam A sweeps 2 games

MONROE - In the season opener Saturday, the Avalanche Bantam A youth hockey team traveled to Waunakee and beat the Wildcats 5-3.

Luke Kuberski scored a goal with a pass by Cade Janecke. The Wildcats responded with a goal. With 1.1 seconds left in the first period, Travis Edmunds scored on an assist from Janecke.

The Wildcats scored again in the second. Janecke responded, scoring a goal on an assist by Travis Edmunds. Edmunds then scored two goals in the third period with assists from Janecke and Broc Kuberski. Goalie Heath Bear recorded 26 saves.

On Sunday, the Bantam A team hosted the Beloit Blades A and once again dominated, winning 4-1. Hayden Roth scored the first two goals with assists from Tessa Janecke (2) and Alyssa Knauf. The Blades were able to get one on the board in the third.

The Avalanche responded with two more goals from Edmunds on assists by Cade Janecke and Anika Einbeck. Roman Bauer put a shot into the Blades' empty net.

The Avalanche outshot the Blades 44-23.

The Bantam A team next takes on Beloit A Saturday at Edwards Ice Arena.



PeeWee A

Hayden Roth scored a goal on an assist from Blaze Janecke, to open the scoring for the Avalanche PeeWee A team's 2015-16 season Saturday against Sun Prairie PeeWee A. Alyssa Knauf added two goals with one assist from Bauer, but the Avalanche fell 6-3. On Sunday, Avalanche PeeWee A traveled to Janesville but was defeated 7-3. Scoring for the Avalanche were Tessa Janecke (two goals) and Hayden Roth. Goalie Jack Leverton recorded 18 saves.



Avalanche Squirt B drop opener

The Avalanche Squirt B team opened its season last weekend in Beloit versus the Beloit Blades.

The Avalanche held their own for the first two periods and with the help of their goaltender Xander Obert, who was putting on a clinic by stopping the first 25 shots put up by the Blades. However, conditioning and the length of the ice eventually got the best of the Avalanche. The Blades came out in the third period fired up and scored the first goal of the game just 90 seconds into the period to give them a 1-0 lead. The Avalanche didn't give up though and continued to skate hard with a couple of breakaway chances to tie it but could not convert. The Blades, however, sealed the deal by connecting on an upper shelf shot with less than five minutes to go. Obert had 27 saves on the game. The Avalanche Squirt B team hosts Sauk Prairie at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at SLICE Arena.



Squirt A

On Friday, the Monroe Avalanche Squirt A team traveled to McFarland. The Spartans began the scoring late in the first period. Lilah Bauer scored an unassisted goal for the Avalanche in the third period. With the game tied, the Avalanche continued to battle. The Spartans added one more in the net and the Avalanche fell 2-1 in their season opener. Goalie Miles Gordon recorded 20 saves in net. The Avalanche Squirt A team faces Reedsburg at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
