PLATTEVILLE - Freshman Alexa Bader scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Monroe High School girls soccer team to a 5-1 win over Platteville in a nonconference game Tuesday.
Monroe junior Kennedy Ludwig also scored two goals for the Cheesemakers (6-7-2).
"I was really happy with how the girls played," Monroe coach Kyle Katsen said. "It was tremendously hot. The girls did a good job of mentally preparing themselves for the match. Offensively, we were able to build it up and capitalize on our scoring opportunities."
Ludwig scored the first goal at 31 minutes, 6 seconds on an assist from Bader. Bader scored at 44:14 to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead at the half.
"It feels good to be able to get two goals early," Kasten said. "I always tell our girls we can't rest on our laurels and sit back and play defense only."
The Cheesemakers scored three goals in the second half.
Junior Brynn Ritschard got the Cheesemakers off to a strong start with a goal at 51:37. Ludwig scored her second goal on a pass from Bader at 80:31 to give the Cheesemakers a 4-0 lead. Badger then scored her second goal on an assist from Ludwig at 82:54.
Monroe sophomore goal keeper Anna Latimer had 10 saves.
Monroe hosts Milton on Thursday at Honey Creek Park.
"In these past two games, the girls have had a nose for the goal," Kasten said. "Hopefully, we can keep the scoring going in our next match against Milton."
