MONROE - The Avalanche were back in action last weekend, with both Squirt teams and the Pee Wee A team earning the right to play in the state tournament.

Squirt A (10U)

Monroe Squirt A headed to Verona for playdowns on Sunday and came out on top against the Sauk Prairie Flyers 5-0 to become the Division 4 Squirt 3A champs, heading next to the state games.

Ben Erdley put the first point on the board less than a minute into the game. Monroe scored two more times in the first, with goals by Beau Janecke, assisted by Jace Daughenbaugh, and Brody Koehn, assisted by Brady Stuart and Hans Brandt.

Stuart posted a goal in the second period, assisted by Brandt and Koehn. Brandt scored in the third, assisted by Koehn.

The Avalanche totaled 32 shots on goal, while Brock Brandli had six saves on the day.

Squirt B (10U):

Squirt B traveled to McFarland to take on Sauk Prairie for playdowns on Saturday and came away with the 5-1 victory, securing a trip to the state tournament.

The Avalanche came out strong, scoring twice in the first period on goals by Owen Hicks and Logan Keleher.

The second period was a scoreless defensive battle. Satchel Moorman had an incredible move sacrificing his stick to save a puck at the net.

In the third period, the Avalanche were on fire again, scoring three goals to take the win and secure a spot at state. Goals in the third were made by Brixen Dale, assisted by Hicks, Keleher for one, and Parker Allen with the final score.

Moorman denied 37 shots, only allowing one goal for Sauk.

Pee Wee B (12U):

The Pee Wee B Avalanche team hosted Dodgeville Saturday and won 12-0.

It was the last game before playdowns.

Jaryn Fonseca started the scoring for the Avalanche in the first period.

Ethan Rosenstiel owned the second period, getting three of his four goals in that frame on assists by Christian Carpenter, Gavin Roth and Easton Dreyfus. Roth would get his own goal in the second period on an assist from Rosenstiel. Dreyfus also scored on a pass from Rosenstiel and Carson Kurschner. Jayden Downs wrapped up the scoring in the second period on a great pass by DJ Rath.

The third period was also dominated by the Avalanche, with goals by Rosenstiel, Rath (2), Hayden Barker and Kurschner. Assists came from Downs, Rath and Barker.

Goalie Xander Obert recorded 15 saves.

The playdown game was Sunday in Sun Praire against Sauk Prairie, and the Avalanche won 8-2, ensuring the title of Region 4 Pee Wee 3B Champions and a trip to Waupaca for the State Tournament in March.

Easton Dreyfus got the Avalanche on the board midway through the first period on a pass from Payton Hathaway.

Sauk snapped one in themselves, tying it at 1-1, but Dreyfus answered right back on assists from Hathaway and Christian Carpenter. Gavin Roth fired a rocket past the Sauk goalie for another score off of passes from Hathaway and Dreyfus.

Hathaway scored his own goal midway through the second period from passes by Dreyfus and Carpenter. Rosenstiel picked up where he left off from the previous game with a laser that hit the back of the net, netting assists by Dreyfus and Hathaway. Haden Barker later lit the lamp on assists by Downs and Rath.

Dreyfus and Hathaway closed out the game with two more goals.

Hathaway and Dreyfus each had four assists in the game.

Goalie Xander Obert had 13 saves.

Next up is a trip to Antigo for a tournament this weekend.

Pee Wee A (12U)

The Pee Wee A traveled to Sun Prairie Saturday for its first playdown game and won 7-1. The win punched the team's ticket to state against a wildcard opponent.

The first Avalanche to light the lamp was Evan Brendemuehl. Seth Brandt got a hat trick, with Cameron Newcomer, Wyatt Janecke and Dylan Lewis each adding a goal apiece. Janecke also got a playmaker, having four assists.

The defense played a great game and Miles Gordon had a good day in the net with 18 saves.

On Sunday, the Avalanche played Sauk Prairie for the Division 4 Championship in Oregon and lost 6-3.

The Avalanche were the first to score with an unassisted goal by Janecke.

The next two periods were a back-and-forth scoring battle. Keeping the Avalanche in the battle was a goal by Cash Anderson, who took the puck down the ice and scored unassisted. Janecke added another goal with an assist by Brandt.

The Avalanche went into the third period down 4-3.

Miles Gordon had 32 saves in the game.

The Pee Wee A were disappointed not to be Region 4 Champs, according to the coaches, but got an unexpected surprise when they found out they had still punched their ticket to state.
