MONROE - The Squirt A and Pee Wee A teams earned a trip to state, as did the Squirt B and Pee Wee B teams.

Mites 8U

Mite White traveled to Verona for three games of cross-ice action on Sunday. In Game 1, the Avalanche took on Waunakee. In at goalie was Blake Folgate. One goal was scored by Brogan Hoelscher.

In Game 2, Monroe battled Stoughton. Guarding the net was Hoelscher. One goal was scored by Brodie Dahl.

In Game 3, the Mites faced Verona. Lane Schilt was between the pipes for Monroe. Folgate scored a goal. Brodie Dahl saw his first action for the Mites.

Squirt A (10U)

Monroe Squirt A traveled to Black River Falls for a tournament hosted by the Black River Falls Tigers. Despite their efforts, Monroe couldn't put any goals on the board and lost three straight.

Friday night the Avalanche faced Onalaska and fell 10-0.

The second game was late Saturday morning against LaCrescent. The Avalanche couldn't get things going and the game ended in a 5-0 loss. Brock Brandli had 25 saves.

In an evening game, Monroe was facing McFarland. The teams had already tied twice this season. The third time was not a charm for the Avalanche, and despite the team's 22 shots on goal, the game ended in a 3-0 loss.

Brock Brandli had 10 saves.

This weekend is the Squirt A/B Avalanche Classic Tournament at SLICE. Squirt A will be back in action Friday night at 6 p.m. against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Squirt B (10U)

Saturday Squirt B split a pair. First, the team took on Waunakee at home and won.

Brixen Dale hit one to put the Avalanche on the board in the first period. The Wildcats answered late in the first to tie the score 1-1 going into the second.

The Avalanche were on fire in the second period, recording seven goals in total. Dale, Owen Hicks, Tre Dammen, Parker Allen (2) and Logan Keleher (2) all scored for Monroe. Assists were made by Dammen, Dale, Hicks, and Keleher.

In the third period, Keleher and Dale each scored goals which completed their hat tricks and secured the win over the Wildcats.

Satchel Moorman denied 18 shots in net.

After the win, the Avalanche hit the road to Dubuque, which did not end as well.

The first period was scoreless, and the Avalanche found themselves playing a lot of defense in the second and third periods, which allowed Dubuque to score. Moorman had 15 saves between the pipes.

On Sunday the Avalanche traveled to Sun Prairie but were shutout. Moorman had 27 saves on the day.

Pee Wee A (12U)

The Pee Wee A's had a busy weekend with four games.

First up on Saturday was an early morning game in Verona against the Verona Wildcats A team.

The Avalanche fell 4-2. It was a back and forth scoring game until the third period.

Scoring for the Avalanche was Cameron Newcomer assisted by Wyatt Janecke, and then Janecke would score one with an assist by Carson Buholzer. Defense played tough and Miles Gordon had 28 saves.

Second up for Saturday was a home game against the West Madison Polar Caps B team, which Monroe again came up short despite a flurry of goals, 10-6.

The Avalanche pulled the goalie in the last 45 seconds of the game to try and tie the game up but couldn't get one to fall and instead the Polar Caps sent the puck to the other end of the ice and scored on the empty net.

Scoring for the Avalanche was Seth Brandt, who had a hat trick, Cash Anderson with two, Wyatt Janecke, Breleigh Stuart and Miles Gordon each putting one in the net. Marlies Brandli played goalie for the second time and finished with 22 saves.

On Sunday, the Avalanche had a doubleheader at home with the Middleton B team. The first game was another early morning one with defense playing well as it ended up being a very physical game, but Monroe fell 6-4. The Avalanche kept it tied going into the third.

Scoring for the Avalanche was Seth Brandt with another hat trick, and Cameron Newcomer. Assist were made by Brandt and Cole Buholzer.

Miles Gordon was back in the net with 18 saves.

Monroe then had a chance of redemption in the afternoon game and came out on top 3-2.

There were seven penalties called in the game. Scoring for the Avalanche was Cash Anderson with two, and Dylan Lewis putting in the winner.

Assist were made by Lewis and Evan Brendemuehl. Miles Gordon had 22 saves.

Pee Wee B (12U):

The Avalanche Pee Wee B team headed north to Antigo for a tough tournament.

In the first game, the Avalanche's avenged championship game loss to DePere from the Waupaca tournament last month, and won 6-0.

Monroe controlled this game from the beginning, utilizing crisp passes to getting off to a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Payton Hathaway scored for Monroe first, assisted by Carson Kurschner and Jayden Downs. DJ Rath would get the second Avalanche goal on a pass from Gavin Roth. Haden Barker would score for the Avalanche in the second on passes from Downs and Rath. The third saw two goals by Roth, and Hathaway adding another. Easton Dreyfus had two assists.

Xander Obert recording the shut-out with 21 saves, earning himself a "zero" patch.

The second game of the day saw the Avalanche fall 4-2 to DC Everest.

Kyle Theorin got the Avalanche off to a great start, putting Monroe in the lead early on an assist from Roth. DCE would tie it up on a tough breakaway shot, and Roth would fire a rocket from the blue line on a pass from Hathaway to put the Avalanche temporarily back on top, 2-1.

But with almost four full line changes available, DCE's number of fresh legs would wear the Avalanche down. Everest would put in two quick goals before the end of the second, taking a 3-2 lead into the final period.

Goalie Obert had 29 saves in the loss.

Saturday night there was a «skills competition», and most of the Avalanche Pee Wee B squad participated. The events included precision shooting, puckhandling skills, fastest shot, and fastest skating goalie in full gear. The Avalanche did well, with Kyle Theorin advancing in rounds on precision shooting, Carson Kurschner had a top 10 time in the tough puck handling skills area, Xander Obert placed second in the fastest skating goalie competition, and Gavin Roth won the "fastest shot" award, with a slapshot of well over 50 miles per hour to take the crown.

Early Sunday morning saw the Avalanche take on Antigo, in essentially a must-win match to play on later in the day. Monroe would never look comfortable in this game, however, as sloppy passing and inconsistent penalty-calling would keep the Avalanche from hitting their stride. The Avalanche lost 4-1.

Theorin would score for Monroe on a pass from Hathaway, but otherwise it would be all Antigo.

Goalie Obert had 16 saves.

Next up for the Avalanche is an away game at McFarland on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
