MONROE - The Avalanche PeeWee A team hosted a six-team tournament Friday through Sunday and Monroe finished second.
In its first game, Avalanche PeeWee A defeated the Black River Falls Tigers A 9-2.
Tessa Janecke scored on an assist by Alvin Buholzer to open the scoring. Hayden Roth and Tessa Janecke each earned hat tricks. Alyssa Knauf, Buholzer, and Blaze Janecke each had one goal. Earning assists were Knauf (two), Roth (two), Buholzer (two), Sergio Fletcher and Rob Schroeder. The Avalanche outshot the Tigers 39-26.
In the second game, the Avalanche knocked off the Dodgeville Ice Wolves A 8-1. Tessa Janecke scored the only goal in the first period on an assist by Bauer and Buholzer. The Avalanche scored six times to the Ice Wolves' lone goal. Scoring those goals were Buholzer and two each from Knauf and Roth. Earning assists were Knauf, Roth (two), Tessa Janecke (two), Blaze Janecke and Bauer (two).
The championship game was against Beloit Blades A. Beloit beat the Avalanche 8-5 in a fast-paced game. Tessa Janecke scored a goal on passes from Knauf and Buholzer. Roth scored on assists by Bauer and Knauf. Tessa Janecke found the back of the net in the second period. Bauer drove one into the net on assists by Blaze Janecke and Tessa Janecke. Buholzer scored in the third period on a pass from Knauf.
The Avalanche PeeWee A team ended its regular season 21-10-1 and league champions as well as Region 4 PeeWee 3A Champions. It will travel to Baldwin March 12-13 for the state tournament.
Bantam A
The Avalanche Bantam A team played its last regular-season game Sunday and tied the Janesville Bantam A team 4-4.
Travis Edmunds drove to the net and scored an unassisted goal. Cade Janecke found the back of the net two times in the first period with assists from Edmunds, Haley Knauf and Luke Kuberski. Janesville put up two goals in the first period and one in the second, tying the game 3-3. Janesville scored a goal early in the third period. Cade Janecke earned a hat trick on an assist from Payton Stauffacher.
Goaltender Heath Bear recorded 28 saves.
The Bantam A team will travel to Sheboygan March 4-5 to vie for the 3A Bantam state title.
