The nominations for the Athlete of the Week are as follows:
Monroe
Rachel Root: The sophomore had a hand in winning four events in an 88-82 dual meet win over Stoughton Sept. 7. Root won the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and was a member of the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. She won two events - the the 100-yard butterfly with a personal record time of 1 minute, 3.88 seconds and the 200 backstroke (1:03.23) in a meet at Ashwaubenon.
Jaclyn Ditter: The senior had 23 kills in a win over Whitewater and a split against Lake Mills to help the Cheesemakers go 4-0-1 to win the silver bracket at the Brodhead Invite Saturday.
Dylan Schwitz: The senior had a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown in the Cheesemakers' 23-6 loss to Oregon. Schwitz also ran for 66 yards on eight carries.
Area Boys
Jace Johnsrud, Black Hawk: The junior scored four tochdowns and rushed for 162 yards in Black hawk's 40-14 win over Benton-Scales Mound (Ill). Johnsrud had three tochdown runs and he caught a 76-yard TD pass.
Tyson Miehe, Darlington: The freshman won the River Valley Invitational with a time of 16 minutes, 20 seconds. Tyson was one of four runners in the top 11 to help Darlington win the title.
Lukas Kolasch, New Glarus-Monticello: The quarterback completed 5 of 8 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown in the Knights' 22-0 win over Columbus. Kolasch also had a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Area Girls
Kayla Ostby, Argyle: The sophomore racked up 63 assists to help the Orioles finish 3-2 and win the bronze bracket at the Brodhead Invite Saturday.
Rachel Rygh, Black Hawk: The senior had eight kills in a three set sweep of Pecatonica and she combined with Melissa Wellnitz for 13 kills in a 25-11, 25-13, 22-25, 25-11 win over Juda Sept. 9.
Kayla Lange, Darlington: Lange didn't finish in the top 10 at the River Valley Invite, but as the Redbirds' No. 6 runner she finished ahead of Viroqua's sixth runner to give Darlington the championship despite the fact that they had the same amount of points (58) as Viroqua. The Redbirds had four of the top 11 runners.
