Who should be this week's Monroe, Area Boys and Area Girls Athletes of the Week?

Monroe

Dylan Schwitz, Monroe Wrestling: The senior went 2-0 and won a regional championship at 152 pounds in dramatic fashion Feb. 12. He scored on an escape before the buzzer to beat Brodhead-Juda sophomore Hunter Colden 5-4. It was just Colden's second loss this year.

Nick Walker, Monroe Wrestling: The senior at heavyweight won a regional title. He defeated Brodhead-Juda's Dylan Severson 3-2 to qualify for the Evansville sectional.

Brooke McBain, Monroe Girls Basketball: The junior scored 17 points in a 4947 loss to Waunakee Feb. 8. She scored eight points in a 50-38 loss to ninth ranked Milton Feb. 11.

Michael Barrett, Monroe Boys Basketball: The senior scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds in a 62-52 win over Madison Edgewood Feb. 10. He followed that up by scoring 25 points to lead the Cheesemakers to a 64-50 win over Manitowoc Lincoln Feb. 12.

Kevin Klopfenstein, Monroe Wrestling: The sophomore recorded two pins to win a regional title at 125 pounds.

Area Boys

Ross Gilbertson, Pecatonica-Argyle Wrestling: The senior went 2-0 and won a WIAA Division 3 Mineral Point regional championship at heavyweight. He recorded two pins at the regional.

Jordan Kraak, Brodhead-Juda Wrestling: The freshman won a WIAA Division 2 Sugar River regional title at 103 pounds.

Tyler Kreklow, New Glarus Basketball: The junior scored 21 points and hit a game-winning jumper with 0.5 seconds left to beat Columbus 52-50 Feb. 10. He scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Knights to a 55-52 win over co-Capitol South Conference leader Wisconsin Heights.

Area Girls

Rachel Rygh, Black Hawk Basketball: The senior scored 25 points to lead the Warriors to a 63-42 rout of Barneveld Feb. 10. She scored 12 points in a 60-22 win over Albany Feb. 12.

Cassidy Chambers, Darlington Basketball: The sophomore scored 17 points in a 60-51 win over Mineral Point Feb. 8. She scored a game-high 25 points in a 59-41 win over Iowa-Grant Feb. 11.

Alisha Esselstein, Pecatonica Basketball: The senior scored 17 points in a 60-46 loss to Potosi Feb. 7. She scored 16 points in a 50-45 win over Argyle Feb. 10.
