Who should be this week's Monroe, Area Boys and Area Girls Athletes of the Week?

Visit the Sports page on www.themonroetimes.com to register your vote. Information on the athletes will be made available in an online sports story. Be sure to include both your first and last name, as well as your hometown. Voting will end Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. and results will be published Thursday, Feb. 24.

Monroe

Nick Walker, Monroe Wrestling: The senior at heavyweight took third place at the WIAA Division 2 Evansville sectional and qualified for state at the Kohl Center in Madison. Walker (36-10) won his first two matches at the sectional to earn the state berth.

Brooke McBain, Monroe Girls Basketball: The junior scored 18 points to lead the Cheesemakers to a 43-30 win over Monona Grove Feb. 19. She also scored eight points in a 43-29 win over Oregon Feb. 17.

Michael Barrett, Monroe Boys Basketball: The senior scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Cheesemakers to a 57-49 win over Fort Atkinson Feb. 18. With the win, the Cheesemakers won an unprecedented fifth straight Badger South Conference title.

Area Boys

Hunter Colden, Brodhead-Juda Wrestling: The sophomore finished third at the WIAA Division 2 Evansville sectional at 152-pounds to qualify for state. It's the second straight year that Colden has qualified for state.

Mike Nolden, Sugar River Wrestling: The senior had to wrestle back to earn a berth to state at 189-pounds. Nolden finished third and will make the trip to the Kohl Center.

Matt Trotter, Juda Basketball: The sophomore scored 18 points in a 60-55 win over Orfordville Parkview Feb. 15. He followed that up by scoring 21 points in a 61-59 loss to Barneveld Feb. 19.

Area Girls

Mariah Mohns, Brodhead Basketball: The senior scored 17 points in a 55-46 win over Jefferson Feb. 17. She scored 11 points in a 60-19 win over Palmyra-Eagle Feb. 18.

Amy Jorgenson, Darlington Basketball: The junior scored 26 points in a 56-38 win over Riverdale Feb. 17 to remain tied with Fennimore atop the SWAL.

Melissa Wellnitz, Black Hawk Basketball: The senior scored 12 points in a 53-16 win over Argyle Feb. 17. She scored five points in a 44-27 win over Monticello Feb. 18 that locked up the Warriors' third straight Six Rivers East Conference title.
