Who should be this week's Monroe, Area Boys and Area Girls Athletes of the Week?

Monroe

Dylan Schwitz, Wrestling: The senior finished second place at 152 pounds at the Richland Center Invitational Dec. 18 and he posted his 100th career win. Schwitz wrestled up a weight class at 160 and pinned Madison Edgewood-Monona Grove's Nick Schwandt in 1 minute, 19 seconds to help the Cheesemakers roll to a 63-8 win over the Crusaders Dec. 14.

Michael Barrett, Monroe Boys Basketball: The senior scored 17 points in a 50-39 win over Oregon Dec. 16. With the win Monroe stayed unbeaten 6-0, 4-0 Badger South.

Kylee Ritschard, Monroe Girls Basketball: The senior scored 14 points to lead the Cheesemakers to a 46-41 win over Baraboo Dec. 17.

Area Boys

Tyler Ritschard, Monticello Boys Basketball: The senior guard scored a game-high 34 points and hit six 3-pointers to lead the Ponies to a 64-51 win over Juda Dec. 14. He followed that up by scoring a game-high 22 points in a 55-41 win over Black Hawk Dec. 17.

Dylan Bauman, Juda Basketball: The senior scored a game-high 22 points and drilled five 3-pointers to lead the Panthers to a 45-32 win over Albany Dec. 17.

Merik Meythaler, Black Hawk Basketball: The sophomore hit a game-winning 30-foot 3-pointer with 11.7 seconds left to give the Warriors a thrilling 47-46 win over Argyle Dec. 14.

Area Girls

Hayli Peach, Albany Basketball: The senior scored a game-high 15 points in a 43-42 win over Orfordville Parkview Dec. 14. She followed that up with a game-high 14 points in a 50-34 win over Shullsburg Dec. 16.

Melissa Wellnitz, Black Hawk: The senior scored 15 points and had six steals in a 54-41 win over Barneveld Dec. 16.

Alisha Esselstein, Pecatonica Basketball: The senior scored a game-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers, leading the Vikings to a 67-54 win over Argyle Dec. 16.
