OREGON - Becca Armstrong tossed her second no-hitter of the season Tuesday night in a dominating 10-0 win over Oregon.
"Becca dominated a mediocre hitting team," said Monroe coach Dale Buvid. "She had 16 strikeouts, which was a career high. She just threw mostly fastballs. Her off-speed stuff wasn't great early. She threw heat on the corner, heat up. She threw harder than they could handle. She was throwing into a pretty good wind too."
Offensively, Heather Barta and Kayla Updike each had three hits for Monroe, while Ellie Grossen and Chandra McGuire each had two. Monroe scored five of their ten runs in the seventh inning, putting the game out of reach.
"We had 12 hits. Got a lot of those late. We had four extra base hits. Some well-struck balls," Buvid said. "Kirsten Vetterli had a triple in the seventh that broke the game open. Kinda put the nail in the coffin. It went from 5 to 7 to nothing. That kind of put the game out of reach."
Monroe (13-2, 5-0 in the Badger South) now prepares for two crucial games in the conference race. The Cheesemakers play Monona Grove, a team they already beat once this season, on Thursday before hosting perennial Badger South title contender Fort Atkinson on Friday.

"It's been two weeks since she's gotten a chance to throw," he said. "She didn't hit her usual spots. We'll get back to her later in the week if the weather allows."
