Argyle sweeps Albany to stay on top

ARGYLE - The Argyle volleyball team remained in the driver's seat to win a Six Rivers East Conference championship after sweeping Albany Thursday.

Argyle sophomore Ashley Bruehlman had five kills, seven aces, five digs and three blocks to lead the Orioles to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-15 win over the Comets.

"It was a big game to keep the momentum and stay on top in the conference," Argyle coach Jen Butler said.

With the win, Argyle improves to 11-4, 8-2 Six Rivers East. The Orioles have just two conference matches remaining against Juda and Pecatonica. With the loss, Albany drops to 0-11 Six Rivers East.

Argyle junior Kayla Butler-Paulson dished out 16 assists. The Orioles posted 22 aces as a team.

"We had some strong serves," Butler said. "Our passing and ball control was really good."



Black Hawk 3, Monticello 0

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk junior Sam Lovelace had a team-high 10 aces to help the Warriors bounce back from a five-set loss to Argyle to sweep Monticello Thursday.

Black Hawk (7-4 Six Rivers East) knocked off Monticello 25-12, 25-10, 25-19. Black Hawk senior Aleigha Sigafus had a team-high six kills and senior Brooke Moore racked up 12 assists.

Monticello junior Bri Graber posted four kills and two blocks. Junior teammate Jessie Garrison had a team-best 15 assists and Chandler Hansen had 14 digs. Sophomore teammate Alaya Hummel added four kills and junior Megan Lehr had two aces. With the loss, Monticello drops to 4-13, 2-9.

In other action, Barneveld defeated Juda in five sets. With the loss, Juda drops to 12-6, 6-4 Six Rivers East. No other information was available at press time.
