ARGYLE - The Argyle girls basketball team rolled to a 49-34 win over Black Hawk Thursday to take over sole possession of second place in the Six Rivers East Conference.
Argyle senior Kylie Johnsen scored a team-high 15 points. Argyle (13-6, 8-2 Six Rivers East) went on a 15-4 run in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead at the half. Johnsen scored eight of her points in the second quarter and made two 3-pointers during the spurt.
"That really got us going," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "She was a spark for us in the second quarter. They (Black Hawk) played a 2-3 zone and tried to take the air out of the basketball."
With the win, Argyle swept the season series from Black Hawk (4-14, 3-6).
"It feels wonderful," Ritschard said. "It's something Argle has not done in a long time. They (Black Hawk) have been a powerhouse in our conference for a long time. It's nice to get that sweep."
Black Hawk junior Aleigha Sigafus scored a game-high 20 points. Teammate Tatum Jackson added 10 points.
Argyle sophomore Kayla Butler-Paulson chipped in nine points. Ritschard credited the Warriors for doing a good job of breaking the Orioles' press.
"We will have to look at the film and our rotations to see what we can clean up before the tournament," Ritschard said of the press.
