ARGYLE - After winning its first regional championship and advancing to the sectional semifinals for the first time in 79 years, the Argyle High School boys basketball team is two wins from achieving another milestone, a state tournament appearance.

The next hurdle for Argyle (18-8) is a WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinal game against No. 1 seed Hustisford (21-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sun Prairie High School.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Argyle coach Justin Jenson said. "I always tell the guys never be satisfied. We will come out, take that next step and not be satisfied. We have to stay hungry."

Hustisford finished second in the Trailways South Conference behind Deerfield, which lost to Darlington in a Division 4 regional championship game. Two of Hustisford's losses this season were to Deerfield.

Hustisford is a fast-breaking and pressing team that likes to push the ball. Hustisford averages 66.1 points per game, and the Falcons are coming off an 88-64 win over Abundant Life/St. Ambrose in a regional final.

"They have some really good athletes," Jenson said. "They play in a deep conference. They made a tournament run last year. They have the experience."

Hustisford senior Ben Rode averages 17.2 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. Rode is knocking down an average of four 3-pointers a game, and he has made 103 this season.

"He's a heck of a player," Jenson said of Rode. "He does a little bit of everything. They like to get up and down the court."

Freshman Justin Kuehl (15.2 ppg) and senior David Elliott (14 ppg) also are potent scorers for the Falcons.

"We will have to control the tempo," Jenson said. "They (Hustisford) are comparable to Pecatonica and Barneveld. We played both of them twice and improved each time. We have some pretty good athletes on our team, too. It's not like we haven't played anyone of Hustisford's caliber."

The Falcons average six 3-pointers per game.

"We will have to do a good job of rotating and getting out and contesting shots," Jenson said.

The Orioles also have three players averaging in double digits, led by senior Riley Ostby (17.9 ppg). Junior Collin Argue (12.5 ppg) and senior Kyle Emberson (12.4 ppg) have also proven capable playmakers.

"I'm hoping our shooting gets back on track," Jenson said. "We have struggled the last couple of games."

Jenson has been impressed by the community support.

"The community has been absolutely fantastic," Jenson said. "I'm sure the whole town of Argyle will be there (Sun Prairie) Thursday to cheer us on to victory."
