Argyle-Pec's Steiner wins sectional golf title

SPARTA - Argyle-Pecatonica senior Mitchell Steiner shot a 2-over-par 74 to win the WIAA Division 3 Luther sectional championship on Wednesday and qualify for the state golf tournament.

Argyle-Pecatonica shot a 345 to take fourth as a team in the sectional at the River Run Golf Course in Sparta. Mondovi edged Cochrane-Fountain City for the sectional title 338-340. The top two teams advance to the state tournament, which is Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge in Verona.

New Glarus (352) placed seventh at the 12-team sectional.

The top three golfers not on a team that qualified for state receive state bids.

New Glarus senior Will Oemichen finished in a four-way tie for fifth after shooting an 80. Argyle-Pecatonica junior Matthew Severson finished in a three-way tie for 18th with an 85.

New Glarus freshman Matt Hach and senior Max Cruse tied for 29th with 90s. Junior teammate Cade Beutler took 35th with a 92 to round out the top four for the Glarner Knights.

Argyle-Pecatonica sophomores Dylan Stietz and Mason Holcomb tied for 39th with each carding a 93.
