Argyle-Pecatonica's Amorose state-bound

GREEN LAKE - Argyle-Pecatonica senior Matthew Amorose shot a 9-over-par 81 to take third place at the WIAA Division 3 Markesan sectional to qualify for the state tournament.

Amorose will move on to the Division 3 state golf tournament June 5-6.

New Glarus shot a 375 as a team to finish sixth place and Argyle-Pecatonica took ninth (388) at the Lawsonia Golf Club in Green Lake. The top two teams from the sectional advance to state. Abundant Life-Madison Country Day (343) captured the sectional team title. Cochrane-Fountain City took second (358) and also qualified for state as a team.

New Glarus junior Cole Runde shot an 87 to take ninth and was five strokes away from qualifying for state. Senior teammate Cade Beutler finished in a five-way tie for 24th after carding a 93. New Glarus sophomore Matt Hach shot a 97 and sophomore Jared Martinson finished with a 98.

Argyle-Pecatonica struggled with the course. Amorose was the only golfer to shoot less than 100. Junior teammate Mason Holcomb carded a 101 and junior Dylan Stietz shot a 102. Junior Alex Ryser carded a 104 to round out the top four for Argyle-Pecatonica.
