MINERAL POINT - The Argyle-Pecatonica golf team was dominant in helping the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League win the Southwest Cup Saturday in Mineral Point.

The Southwest Cup is similar to the Ryder Cup, Argyle-Pecatonica golf coach Chris Holcomb said, as they both have match play. In the Southwest Cup, the top 24 golfers from the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League match up and play the top 24 golfers from the Southwest Wisconsin Conference. Argyle-Pecatonica won four of the five matches to win the cup.

"It was a fun day for the players against bigger schools," Holcomb said.

The Oriole-Vikings were coming off a third-place finish at the SWAL mini meet at Mineral Point on Friday.

"The Friday mini meet at Mineral Point was cold and windy," Holcomb said. "We got it in, but scores were up a bit. We know we can play better."

The Oriole-Vikings have had a busy stretch with eight golf meets in 11 days.

"Due to weather, we have had a lot of golf compressed into a week," Holcomb said.

The Oriole-Vikings shot a 176 and finished second in a rescheduled SWAL mini meet Thursday at Hickory Grove Golf Course in Fennimore, which Mineral Point won. Argyle-Pecatonica's Ben Figi shot a 44 for his season-best round.

Argyle-Pecatonica will play Madison Abundant Life today at the Cherokee Country Club in Madison. Then, the Orioles will play in the SWAL Conference championship Tuesday in New Glarus.
